Being “very demure, very mindful” is the latest topic of conversation that everyone on social media is talking about.
I’m not one for trend’s but this one caught my eye. On the surface, to be “very demure, very mindful, very cutesy” seems quite vain. But according to Jools Lebron, the content creator behind the new catchphrase, it is the complete opposite. To be “very demure, very mindful” is a testament to authenticity and kindness.
What Does “Demure” Mean?
For Jools who is also known as joolieannie on TikTok, being demure and mindful is a way of life. It has less to do with physical appearance and more to do with the way that someone expresses and conducts themself in their day to day life.
Genuine self-expression and consideration is at the core of being “demure”.
Jools says that it’s all about, “being mindful and considerate of the people around you, but also of yourself and how you present to the world.”
I really do love the message behind this new catchphrase because it speaks to authenticity and the ability to be genuine to who you truly are. Just like Jools, I believe that subtlety is just fine. I actually prefer it. There isn’t always a need for dramatics.
In my opinion to be “demure” is to be subtle on purpose. It is to be relaxed, humble, and authentically you, because to be genuinely “demure”, you must be acting from the heart.
What Does “Mindful” Mean?
Not only does Jools say to be “demure”, but she also says to be “mindful”.
If you are a fan of self-improvement or spirituality, you are no stranger to “mindfulness”.
To be mindful is to be conscious or aware. According to Jon Kabat Zinn, also known as the Godfather of Mindfulness in the Western World, mindfulness is the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose in the present moment without judgment. When you are being mindful, you are purposely present, aware of what is going on in the moment.
Mindfulness is a practice that anyone can adopt. It has the power to enhance our relationships, relieve stress, reduce negativity biases, and increase compassion further improving our quality of life.
Mindfulness Is an Everyday Choice
Despite being “demure” and “mindful” growing in popularity for the time being, mindfulness is certainly not a trend. It’s a lifestyle. Each and everyday, we must CHOOSE to be mindful of our decisions and our actions in order to live an honest and happy life.
Somatic yoga is a great mindfulness practice that you can add into your daily routine if you’re interested in increasing your self-awareness. You can read more about it here!
When we are both mindful and “demure”, we are self aware and considerate of those around us. We do not present ourselves to be someone we are not, and are instead confident in who we are at our core.
For me, the overall message behind this viral trend is to be true to who you are. It reminds us all that there is no need to overdo it in any way. Always be self aware and authentically you!
