I don’t believe that you can truly reap the benefits of self care without taking some time to self-reflect. Because in order to find out what form of self-care you need, you have to tune in, and listen to your inner voice. That voice that is begging you to say “no” to another night out because your body needs rest.

Yeah, that one.

I find that when self-reflection is not done on a regular basis, self-care starts to slip; which makes perfect sense. Sometimes, we get so caught up in what we have going on that we don’t take the time to stop and ask ourselves what we need, or how we’re feeling. But, by setting aside just a few minutes each day to reflect and tend to our personal needs, we can ensure that we are taking care of ourselves as best we can.

In my experience, prioritizing self-reflection as a form of self-care has uncovered emotions that I didn’t know were there, and I learned more about myself. It’s the only way that I know that I’m headed in the right direction, or that I need to give myself a second to pause and reset. Affordable self-care practices like journaling can create mental clarity, allowing you to do what’s best for you in the name of self-care.
